Seeing that got me thinking, what would've been different from yellow? Obviously your starter, but what about your rival? Would he still get Eevee? What about the other 3 starters? Would you still get them or would they be? The 3 fossils at a low level? What about the uncatchable pokemons?

I assume it would just be literally Yellow version with a Clefairy/Jigglypuff and maybe some version exclusives split between them. The rocketmons would probably still be uncatchable and the rival would probably still have Eevee.

Man, could you imagine what would've happened if Clefairy DID end up being the mascot once the Fairy-type came into the equation? The anime would've suddenly had to explain why the main mon was now resistant to its former sole weakness.

Deep question thou, how is clefairy girly? Its desine is pretty neutral and friendly monsterish. Its behaviour is just wierd alien esp shit, which was maybe partly inspired by Creature's previous work on earthbound. And its pink colour is pretty muted. So how is it more girly than say squirtle or odish?

It wasn't in the files. It was a normal frame in the Japanese version of the Gameboy Camera (and doesn't use the Yellow version art of Pikachu to begin with).

Jigglypuff has a unique sprite in Yellow that they didn't bother doing for any not-Pikachu Pokemon and the game's debug mode has a Pikachu and Jigglypuff in your team.

A couple of non-Pikachu Pokemon got new sprites in Yellow. Strangely, Clefairy actually got both a new sprite (it has one extra pixel in its hair) and a new walking sprite. I have no idea where either of these appear in-game, but I assume they do.

I think the top three and bottom four are all from RB. Oddish, Chansey, Puff, Bulbasaur, and the new Clefairy are all exclusive to Yellow, though.

That Clefairy is not new to Yellow. That exact sprite is already in RedBlue and is used for the Jigglypuff in the first Pokemon Center, then Yellow added that new sprite you see below the chansey in your picture.
