Why did the storyboarders think the first evo of a grass Pokémon would beat the final evo of a fire/flying Pokémon that’s x4 resistant to grass?

Back then Charizard wasn't treated like the strongest pokemon of all time.
Charizard lost a lot of battles even against pokemon with disadvantage.
That's what made the og anime so great.
It didn't give a fuck about plot armors or shillmons.

now the current anime isn't allowed to make Charizard or Pikachu lose any battle which is cringe and dumb

except plot armor is given to the likes of Chokrita, as in the OP image, and all the unevolved Pokémon in Ash’s team.

No, the idea is that it wasn't biased towards shillmons.

Heck, they even made Charizard lose to a Dusclops that Ash's Bulbasaur could defeat.
it's starting from Gen6 that they started to give Charizard the "undefeatable" status, Alain and Leon's existed to push this meme.

But it was biased to easily marketable kawaii Pokémon. Right now, a shillmon depends on it’s cool factor, but back then, it all depended on it’s cute factor.

The old seasons were the MOST detached from the games. They literally had a whole episode dedicated to showing that real battles were nothing like the games (shown as a simulation in the episode).

What the fuck are you smoking. Older seasons had weird shit like aiming for the horn, magic Gastlys and that overpowered Bellsprout.

Newer seasons literally have stuff like Type: Null using swords dance complete with the fucking stat boost animation from the games.

The old anime had Ash sweep a veteran trainer at the Indigo Plateau with a Krabby he never even trained.

Ash never actually commands Pikachu to aim for the horn in the original Japanese version. That was a dub edit.

In the Japanese version, Ash just cheers Pikachu on and its attack just happens to hit the horn.
