that's because there's noting interesting about Gen 6 and beyond from a speedrunning perspective. RNG manip is very unreliable to the point where its not even worth doing. There's a billion fucking cutscenes and interruptions to the point where Sun and Moon is a 6 hour speed run. Movement is uninteresting as it can be, and there are barely any moments where you need to improvise when shit goes wrong cause the games hold your hand.

Ths speedrun community are a bunch of braindead kids with no life, i don't have anyting against them, i'm just trying to accurately describe them even though it sounds aggressive. Only a fool would watch hour long playthroughs of someone trying to complete a game as fast as they can. Speedruns that last less than an hour are somewhat more passable, but just casually watching a couple because you are extremely bored does not count as being an active part of the community.

I think they're fun to watch and I don't get why they trigger /vp/ off so much. It's cool seeing people with in-depth understanding of the games routing them and attempting to minimize the impact of rng, and it's interesting seeing how mechanics can be exploited to make runs faster than ever. Plus, don't think I've seen any trannys running Pokemon games, which is a plus.
Also the glitched complete dex run of Gen I is one of the most magical speedruns I've ever seen, shit is bananas.

Unfortunately, the fastest way to beat the game is not necessarily the safest. Take gen 1 for example. In gen 1, especially Red/Blue, being in redbar (having about 20% or less of max HP) makes battles go by significantly faster. However, having HP that low makes certain battles much riskier. Battles that would be virtually guaranteed wins at max HP become dangerous.

I mean vp really is bad at competitive speculation and playing, it's not like being good at a childrens game has any value though. Actual good players around here try to bait newfags and furries into hating smogon or generating wars between singles and doubles, actual players play both mostly, or just understand they are just different metagames and that theres nothing more to it. speedruns explore the mechanics that get them through the game quickest. often abusing glitches, repeating stupidly overpowered moves non-stop and skipping as much content as possible. the least fun possible way to play, usually. little of it is applicable in a regular playthrough or against another human because so much of the game is ignored when you try to complete it quickly.

Werster has been doing a lot of fun categories lately. Like I think I saw him doing dunsparce and bidoof speedruns and shit. Otherwise all mon runs boil down to just overlevelling your starter and cramming x attack and potions down its throat every major fight. I would especially never speedrun any of the games where you have to reset a shitton to get a good starter.

I dont really watch speedruns on YT though its more like I just hop into wersters stream when hes on sometimes.

Autistic. For viewers only the result (completed runs) matter, I don't see why they would watch random streams of speedrun attempts (basically gambling to be part of the hype with the odds way against you).
Routing stuff and optimizing strats can be fun, but it's something that you should do yourself instead of watch on a stream.
From a viewer's point of view, I practically see speedruns as better walkthroughs/guides whenever I get stuck on something or want to know how to win the best (so in my case I don't really watch Pokemon speedruns).
