Want to get back into playing some pokemon, but I really dislike too many designs in the newer games.
Have to decide between Soul Silver and Omega Rubin. Which one should I go for?

Platinum is based. Big region, a lot of exploration, hard trainers, no such thing as shiny locks, a shorter (but pretty good) battle frontier, a lot of sidequests and optional legendaries, and some pretty solid tracks as well as minigames like secret bases, underground, and contests

honestly I think it would be cool if we went back to one use TMs only so the player is actually has to think carefully about what mons they want to teach them to instead of just going "UNGA BUNGA! Based. I think finding the TMs gives you access to one of them in the main story and "breaks" them, but once you get to the postgame, the professor (or someone) makes a machine that fixes the TM for good so you can reutilize them as many times as you want.

this might be controversial but I think it would be cool if the player couldn't buy items like potions and revives at all (except for maybe pokeballs) until the postgame and during the main game the only time you get them is from NPCs so the player is encouraged to think carefully about what items they use before using them instead of going "UNGA BUNGA! ME SPAM 999 FULL REESTOAR AND WIN DA GAEM!!!!"

That's something I wouldn't see them doing in the main game unless they brought back a challenge mode, or maybe they could limit items in stores or make everything extremely expensive or with a different currency so the player has a lot of money for things like clothing and adventure items like escape rope or Poke Balls, but medicines become extremely rare or expensive (like how vitamins were pre gen 4)

The thing about that is that "the player couldn't buy or use items" is something that you can already do in-game, by simply avoiding to use them. I personally went thru the last 4 gens without using items of that sort and it became so natural to me I already got to the E4 and looked at my bag and was like "woah how did i et so much shit"

Potions and revives are great for extended exploring away from the Pokemon center, places like seafoam islands or mt.coronet where flying to the Pokemon center isn't optimal. You can always impose your own rules on using items, unlike how exp share is now
