>>43298007I think it can only happen if it played out similarly to how you got Kanto Starters in Gen 6. You got your standard starter at the beginning of the game and picked another from one of the older sets later on. Of course, in Gen 6 this was to ensure the players had a Pokemon to use the new Mega Evolution mechanic with. Regional forms already debuted, so it would be kind of lackluster and serve less purpose. They would have to do something big with them to make the scenario meaningful, which isn't impossible. They could make a set of old starters have regional forms that could either have a completely different third evolution (a la Perrserker) or be the only variant of these starters that can engage with new mechanics introduced in the generation (to demonstrate: only these regional variants can Mega Evolve/Use Z-moves/GigantaMax/etc).
