>>43300224Looking at it simply as A movie it was ok, but as a Pokemon movie it was terrible.
I never played or watched a playthrough of the Detective Pikachu game, so I don't know how well of an adaptation it is of that game. But it's fucking baffling that this is the thing they decided to adapt.
You can sum up the vast majority of pokemon media in a few short phrases be it main games, side games like Ranger and Mystery Dungeon, the anime, or the manga.
You explore a region with many interesting sites to see. You encounter many strange and powerful pokemon to join your team. You fight your way through many challenging battles.
This movie manages to miss all of those points. The movie mostly takes place in one city and the outskirts of said city. Everyone in the city on;y has one pokemon and no one successfully catches a pokemon. Pokemon battles are illegal in the city. They have "battles" which all boil down to running away until something happens to stop the fight.
It was also uncomfortably sexual at times. You have a father in the body of a pikachu saying that some pokemon are attracted to his increasing nudeness and how he doesn't usually "take someone home he just met"
It's fucking disturbing
