Illumise is pretty cute in its own right, but Volbeat is objectively the worst pokemon ever and no one would miss if it were cut forever. Illumise can always mate with someone else humans included

i think i like the idea of fire fly pokemon more than i like these desgins
that was the huge limit of the old pokemon games, and the major disappointment of the new ones; you never really saw pokemon in action, it was the anime that let you see big pokemon be big, or pokemon with quirks demonstrate those quirks

I like how they look but unfortunately they have hoenn syndrome.
>awful stats
>dull typing
>two pokemon that are counterparts
>barely usable in game let alone competitive
>hoenn has the highest number of fully evolved mons with very low BST for no reason

Just make them bug/fairy and give them bigger movepools. That could actually make these two usable. Plusle and Minun are so bad and generic "fast frail mono electrics" that they can't even be helped.

Gen 7 DID at least buff them... a little, as well as giving them both Prankster as HA's.
I'm just theorizing, but Volbeat at least has Tail Glow, and both of them have Baton Pass, Subsitute, and some other moves like Defog, Encore or Tailwind.
Maybe they can offer some kind support?

Volbeat is pretty cool and it makes sense it was one of the designs revealed beforehand to promote gen 3 back in the day. Too bad it kinda sucks in the game, and I don't understand why they made yet another Nidoran-style male-female pair of two different species. They could have worked in the sexual dimorphism stuff before gen 4.

Like >>43307099 said, its pretty much hoenn syndrome. Double battles were introduced in Gen 3 so duo Pokemon was also a thing. Latias/Latios, Plusle/Minun, and Volbeat/Illumise.

And to a lesser extent, in Gen 5 triple battles were introduced, which meant some Unova trios like Simipour/Simisage/Simisear as well as having three different legendary trios.
