In my interpretation of the op, op assumes we are already playing the new games as they come out even though they are essentially the same. He thinks we like playing the games as they are and if they improved to become challenging and different (and ultimately better), we wouldn’t play them anymore because it’s too different.

Meaning he is essentially asking that “if the games were good, would we go back to playing them”
