You can’t exchange them for different cards, but you can play them in clever ways in order to make your situation better, like applying for a scholarship for “coming from an impoverished neighborhood” so you can go to a better college or something.
Life isn’t about getting better cards in this metaphor—the cards have already been dealt, and you have to play THAT hand. Sometimes you will have a truly terrible hand with no chance of winning at all, but more often than not you can play a mediocre hand in clever ways to come out on top. You just gotta be willing to stop moping about a hand/situation long enough to assess the situation and figure out how you can make it suck less.
