What could they have done to make it sell better?
As of now it’s a huge flop.

Maybe they should have stopped being lazy and give us mew story content.

People only gave a shit for PMD originally as Game Freak had announced the delay of DP and they wanted their pogymans fix. Now that Sword/Shield launched and there's DLC announced for it, people give even less of a shit for furfag simulator than they did after Gen IV launched and PMD sales tanked initially.

Make a new PMD game featuring all the rest of the pokemons.

DX could only work if they added up the remaining Pokemons, add some more shit along with some QoL, I wanted to play as a Litten with a Rowlet for a partner

European market overall is far bigger than the UK though and given it didn't trouble the top of the charts elsewhere there, it kinda imples it didn't do as well as you think.

It did well for a spin-off game, though? I do agree that they could have done a lot more, when I thought ''Rescue Team remake'' I pictured all current gen mons, a expanded postgame and maybe special episodes, not just the original game in 3D and QoL improvements

Instead of just re-releasing the game reskinned (like ORAS or USUM... huh), they should have taken the opportunity to make this the Sky version of the original. But I guess Soul is simply too much to ask for in the modern vidya industry.

yeah this
the trend of having less content than the previous game is stupid as fuck and it's not going to last
and RPGs are the easiest type of game to generate content for. you just write a basic ass randomizer and people will play that shit for hundreds of hours, but apparently the biggest franchise ever can't even manage that

And yet didn't match Sword/Shield's 1st-week performance, much less didn't sustain its Japanese launch figures the 2nd week on sale. It got a Switch bump from the last series entry, it's debatable it'll best the originals' total, given as I said, there was new pokémon content launching both before and after it, not to mention Animal Crossing topping the charts in both UK and Japan, yet failing to best Pokémon's first-week worldwide total of 6m on top.
