The hype season was glorious. I was so excited for the mega forms, and fairies. I really wanted to use the new designs like Noivern and the 3D was cool.
Then the game drops and it has pretty shitty rivals and a very rushed villain team. Online was pretty neat though.

Great hype season, especially after the reveal of Sylveon before fairy was revealed.

I think XY were less bad games and more defined by being games as unimpressive as DP but with no third version to fix the problems, which taught GF a lot of bad lessons.

I found X & Y more enjoyable than Sword and Shield, and I've been playing the games since Red and Blue back in the late 90s. I haven't actually bought a game since X, but I've managed to play the gen 7 games through emulation. Gen 8 because I tried my nephew's game when he brought his game over when he was staying over before the outbreak started locking everyone down.

This. The transition to 3d ruined pokemon. Strangely, it was also when they started making games of entire countries and not just reigons of countries. I don't know if there was a correlation between the two factors, though. That, plus gimmicky mega evolution and a lack of new pokemon.

I will forever hate these games for being the starting point of when GF just decided to not care anymore. Gen 5 flopped in sales compared to other gens all because it didnt suck KANTOOOOOOOO's cock, so we will never have another quality gen again and just nostalgia pandering.
