He was in the right when it came to his plan to stop the darkest day, but he was too retarded to wait a single extra day to prevent a crisis that wouldn't happen for another 1000 years.
Like, he had Leon on board with the plan and he ended up ruining everything because he was impatient despite there being no immediate danger. The whole conflict felt cheap.

Wouldn't things get out of hand anyway though? Rose says they failed to control Eternatus, so had to ask Leon for help, but then Leon fails, and then you try it and you beat it but you also fail and it just grows angrier and stronger.
It feels like no matter what things would've gone south and the day was only saved thanks to you and Hop waking the wolves up.

I like the idea of an individual so driven by their love of a region that they're only capable of seeing individuals as a means of perpetuating its long-term glory.

However, GF choked with how bastard-ish they wanted the guy to be so we're left with Oleana, somehow, being a sub-mastermind that's willing to dump orphans, manipulate companies, and mindbreak the goddamn Champion for the sake of everything instead.

There was no reason for him to even be the villain at all. If GF just stuck with the gym challenge plot, fleshed it out more and tie the Eternatus shit with Swordbert and Shieldberts story then the main plot could of been decent with it having a unique element of being the one Pokemon game that doesn’t have a straight up villain/criminal organisation in the main story. But no GF had to shoehorn in a save the world plot in the main story even if it comes at the cost of fucking everything up in the process.
