Fine if it's a gimmick of a few Pokemon with supernatural/extraterrestrial origin, or if it's incorporated in the future through crossbreeding, but straight up DBZ/Digimon style fusion of normal Pokémon feels wrong

Tacky. It would be better if they made a few crossbreed Pokemon you can only get by breeding two specific species. Like if they made a jackalope Pokemon you can only get by breeding Sawsbuck with Lopunny.

Pokemon is not that kind of world. They are not simply monsters, they are that universe's equivalent of animal wildlife. It doesn't make sense for fusions to exist outside of legendaries and a potential crossbreeding mechanic
