Also, Alain isn't a Sue. He's a strong battler, but he was miserable. His attempts to protect the leprechaun chick pushed her away, made her miserable and indirectly lead to her Chespin getting fucked. Lysandre manipulated him for the majority of his journey. He picked up League battling and became an Ash fanboy, and needed Ash's support to beat Lysandre.
Meanwhile, everyone in XY worshiped the ground Ash walked on. Aaide from Clemont and Bonnie's relationship, all of Ash's friends revolved around Ash. The green rival kid worshipped Ash. Everyone went on about how special and amazing Ash was all season,and he got a special fursona of legend. His only real flaws came from losing in the finals (but being praised by Alain anyway), and that dumb Wulfric arc that lasted 2 episodes and was just about him brooding.
