>>43327244It got people maimed and killed because they were already true believers, and their unwillingness to concede their faith in the face of persecution. Why did they refuse their faith? Because early Christianity glorified suffering, and promised an eternal paradise, which managed to turn someone's brutal death into an inspirational holy act to people who's lives were already impossibly miserable. These people, inspired that someone could believe in something so strongly that they could sing songs of praise while being torn apart, looked into the faith and became part of a self perpetuating cycle. It had something to sell that, to this day, remains extremely tantalizing and virtually impossible to objectively disprove. Of course it did well, of course it spread through the poor masses like wildfire.
You have to give it to the early Christians, they adapted superbly well.
