Ghost gen I move was Lick and Night Shade.
Licking is physical.
Night Shade was set damage, so it makes no difference.

Ghost was special because when in special mode it's see through and can't interact with anything like how it goes through walls so it turns on physical mode to interact with the real world

Ghost makes sense based on Gen I-III moves. Astonish, Lick, Shadow Punch were all Ghosts were doing. Shadow Ball is an exception but there are way more now-physical attacks in Gen I-III.

So obviously Dragon is the type with no real rules but there's an argument for it being Physical. Outrage and Dragon Claw are contact moves like Thrash and Slash, just with a type added to them. Is a Dragon doing something to its claws when it makes contact? Dragon Breath makes some sense like any of the elemental beams, but even Twister is similar enough to Razor Wind.

Dark was special because although their attacks all made contact they inject an evil aura inside their victim that inflict it psychological pain. Hence why it's super effective on Psychic types.
