Although Slowpoke Well ended up costing me two Pokemon (Ralph the Rattata and Spook the Gastly), Bugsy was a relatively easy win due to Mira. The next part, though, was extremely difficult. It took a heroic performance from Rocky, who has just now started to listen to me after obtaining the Hive badge. Of course, he'll soon go back to ignoring me if I use him too frequently, hence his title in pic related.
Spoiler for Liquid Crystal: The hack makes you fight 2 rival battles in a row: one against the new rival, Axel, and another against Silver. Axel is OP as fuck: he has a Quagsire that knows Ice Punch, an Electabuzz, and a Bagon with Double Edge and the Rock Head ability. Yotsugi put Quagsire to sleep and slowly whittled it down with Confusion, and Rocky soloed the rest of Axel and Silver's teams, including surviving a crit in the red zone.

Faced Blue.
Fight was going great, then he sends in his Alakazam. I switch to Chicago the Tauros, who is hit by a Psychic and replies with Strength.
Alakazam is dooooooooown...to 1hp.
Another Psychic and this time is an high roll.
Chicago, my best Pokémon is down.
I swept entire gyms with him and he was CRUCIAL in my Champion battle with only 3 mons left on low health.
I won the last medal eventually, but the loss of my beloved friend is breaking my hearth.
Milwaukee the Miltank, his wife, is taking his spot in the team, to carry on his spirit.
Now I need a huge grinding to fight Red.
Bring it on.

This is post-Iris. The team is mostly healthy thanks to Serperior's Leech Seed and Haxorus being greedy. Weird how the the gym trainers are so much harder since they actually get to use Dragon Claw.

We're nearing the end of the run with the most bog-standard team ever. Unova has a lot of pokemon but their distribution is limited and there's like 10~ pokemon that are guaranteed catches that are obviously very good. One day I'll try to meme with Watchog and shit but we'll have to see.

Lost a few mons to Whitney. First time I've lost mons to her in a while. Morty was nice and easy with Togetic (got Serene Grace). I'm honestly at the point where even if I lose mons I have so much variety in the boxes that I'm not really concerned.

So i got through Mt. Moon and grabbed a Zubat. I was hoping for a Geodude so i could name it Berlin but i guess i used up all my good luck with Pikachu and Jigglypuff. I also got a Kakuna and Spearow which aren't great. I originally boxed Rattata as soon as possible but after getting almost killed by them and raticates i decided to grind him up before him and Madrid were killed:( recovered slightly after catching an Oddish and Mankey and heading to Vermillion. Chucked Krakow in the Daycare for now.

Mostly came down to my luxray and scizor dying to some (for me anyway) unexpected moves, namely heat wave and earthquake. The rest of my team just matched up way too poorly and was slightly underleveled as well.

I've been obsessed with B/W's encounter design because of how there's so many pokemon yet there are so few routes that your team composition is very limited. Nobody's fighting the E4 with a team of Stoutland, Watchog, and Liepard. I'm also surprised how many encounters are locked behind repel cheesing. Maybe it's just because I don't nuzlocke B/W a lot but I feel like shit like Joltik is so rare just because you can only find it on one route.

Also as an EV autist this game gives out WAY too many Attack EVs.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Am I going insane?

Victreebel's a pitcher plant. They're basically jars of stomach acid that smell nice/look pretty to lure in bugs and other small animals. They're way cooler than flytraps and I'm glad pokemon agrees with me.
Also the Onix/Cloyster couple are from HGSS. Two things I'm good at? Basic biology and obscure pokemon trivia.

The birds are technically not your first encounter (unless you repel spam) so if you catch them you shouldn't use them. I usually ignore legendaries.

Gym leader level cap has always been way too much hassle to use for every game except red where the grinding is to annoying to match the gym leaders. I basically lost a run because there was no way not to go past the cap with all my good Pokemon.

Oh yeah, Krokorok would've helped. I like how it adds to the challenge more and it's fun to have everything suddenly evolve and become overpowered around Skyla/Brycen. I might extend the level limits for a "shitmon" run.

I've wiped three times to FireRed nuzlocke. I had additional rules added to make it harder but I don't want to remove them and just play a normal nuzlocke run or else it'll feel like I truly was defeated.

Swoobat's actually not terrible, it actually gets Calm Mind and good dual STABs. Only problem is it can't switch in on anything and I know for a fact Marshal has rock moves. In theory it could 1v1 Caitlin

54 is the level cap. So technically Braviary is usable but it basically can't fight at all before that. Larvesta and Zweilous have the meme factor but that can only carry you so far.

You could do a lot worse than special Rapidash. Shiny Mankey reminds me of Grookey which is hilarious. I have a shiny on SacredGold too but I don't want to grind right after grinding. I might give another shot at a no grind locke for FireRed.

The thing with Starmie is that its bulk and speed weren't the best (almost no EVs, it was fished in Oivine) and most of the other trainers in the gym packed Payback. You can get a Wide Lens playing Voltorb Flip but I was tired of it afer getting enough for a couple Ice Beams and a Thunderbolt (even though they are 4k coins a piece in this hack).

Ledian takes a bit of work. I have my final moveset already good so that's nice. Ice/Electric coverage is nice even though base Special Attack is like 55. It's better than it's Attack at least.

For those asking how A-Persian is, it's pretty fun too use, but it's best STAB move is Bite until the post game, unless you overlevel the E4 by 4 whole levels. Nice team, Swellow looks majestic in HGSS. Morty's Gengar is 29, in case you were wondering. your Curry is dangerously near the lvl cap, but I doubt you'll use it agaist him. After that, Chucks Poliwrath is lvl 35.
Boxed are also a shiny Dustox and a Butterfree, the former has a pleasant autumn vibe, the later rapes your eyes.

Darmanitan is 100% the most broken pokemon in this game. Thankfully both Darmanitan trainers are optional though you have to go through one if you want a P2 catch.

Agh, sorry. Gengar is like everything wrong with Platinum Fantina turned up to 11. You have to get creative with your counters. (Or get lucky like me.) I think Swablu learns Safeguard, one of the few Hypnosis counters. Then you can try using something bulky like Heracross to handle Gengar. If you can get Crobat that'd be great too, it's one of the few early-game things that outspeed.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dray gave Gym Leaders good EVs/IVs (I don't even know if the real game does this.) Chesto Berries are a good idea too, though I don't like how you already have to know your opponent's bringing sleep to use them. I guess you could just have something always hold a Chesto Berry. Grimsley was easy peasy. Conkeldurr got a free sub on Scrafty and Focus Punch got kills where Brick Break didn't. Sub also shielded Conk from Bisharp's Aerial Ace which was cool.

Marshal got swept by Serperior of all things, Leech Seed + Coil too stronk. He tried to crit me with a few Stone Edges, but no dice.

Caitlyn is where things got tough. I led with Klinklang expecting Swoobat but got a face full of Focus Blast Reuniclus. I had BrightPowder to try to dodge that shit but no dice. It lived on a sliver. Reuniclus had to power through with Light Screen + Shadow Ball and I made an aggressive switch to Darmanitan to clean up CM Goth.

Next up is the hardest of the four, Shauntal. Hope I stand a ghost of a chance.

So that's where we are right now. IIRC you can actually grind stuff up between the E4 and N + Ghetsis so I'm gonna take it. Not sure what I'm gonna use. RIP melon, you didn't do much all run but you came in clutch against Caitlyn.

In hindsight if I remembered you get a break between E4 and Ghetsis I might've grinded the team less. On the other hand, Klinklang would probably be dead. And possibly everything else. Oh well.

Been an amazing tank and it is always fun to watch an opponent try to break through confusion and paralysis at the same. However, her most important contribution is probably going to be her Pickup ability. It is my understanding that there is only 1 Shiny Stone prior to the Elite 4 and I need 2. However, I looked it up and once my Pachurisu reaches the 40s, it has a chance of picking up a Shiny Stone. Also, Super Fang is coming at lvl 33, one of the most underrated moves in Pokemon if you ask me.

Having this one might look a little strange when I already have Garchomp and it also makes my team even weaker to Water/Ice types. However, I got a few heart scales in the underground and the potential movepool is, I think, good enough to justify the risk. Access to all 3 Fang moves, Earthquake, and Crunch. Plus the sand stream ability has good synergy with Syrax's Sand Veil. I just need to keep Spearwife alive so I don't get swept by a Lapras.

Lenora is down. I kinda panicked after losing Roggenrola and not getting Timburr as my Pinwheel Forest encounter, but I figured I might as well just train everyone to the level limit and hope for the best. I sent out Nepean against her Herdier and he managed to avoid all of its attacks. She sent out Watchog and I decided to stay in with Nepean since he's my bulkiest mon and just hope for the best, he lived with 1hp after being hit by Retaliate. We both got lucky, but I got the short end of the luckstick. Still, escaping Hydreigon unscratched is pretty damn lucky. F to Serperior and Conkeldurr. /vp/ always says Serperior is trash but Jesus christ, Leech Seed + Coil is insane. Serperior is an A-tier supportmon that occasionally sweeps to boot. N talking about how much Snivy liked me at the beginning makes me want to cry. Everybody knows how good Conkeldurr is but I'm glad I brought Focus Punch memes, that was fun. Also, way to hit the toad.

Golurk did everything it needed to and was a nice late-game addition. Seismitoad was underwhelming but maybe I'm too used to Water/Grounds being OP and actually learning ground moves. Darmanitan did Darmanitan things. Klinklang cheated death.

I think MVP goes to Watchog though. I lost a lot of pokemon midgame and Watchog was there to keep the team together. Plus it sacrificed itself to stop the monster mole and that's no small feat.

Fun run overall, got pretty challenging at times. I'm still pissed about encounter rates but this game hands out some good shit. Sadly no HoF picture, so here's the next best thing. I still don't want to finish SG.

So I'm a bit burnt out on romhacks.. Decided to test out an idea and I'm gonna try a Randomized Generations run.

Trainermons, wildmons, giftmons, etc. all rando. Also randomized abilities and moves (prefer same type), and randomized evos just for curiosity's sake as I've never tried that but always been interested in it. Not sure if I'm keeping that though.

Regardless, I'm about 5 badges into FireRed and a majority of my deaths have been to the fact that fucking EVERYTHING seems to have Shadow Tag or Arena Trap. It's pretty frustrating, but aside from that I'm actually enjoying the run so far. Can't wait to get out of Kanto though.

Quick summary of what's happened in the past few gyms:
-Janine went down super easily, nothing much to report
-Misty almost killed Meyers, but we pulled it off without a loss
-Brock got destroyed by Meyers
-Blaine got destroyed by Deep Blue
-Blue was actually really hard, we went in underleveled for a challenge, but he almost KO'd a number of Pokemon and OHKO'd Freddy with a Gyarados Hyper Beam. RIP old friend.

To replace, we're bringing in Wailing to see if we can take out Macargo/Slugma for future runs (also for the Memez).

Before the Radio Tower, I biked around picking up a few items like the MysticWater and Pink Bow. I also caught Maya, but her moveset is dogshit for now so I'll use her as an HM Slave until Kanto. She will get decent TMs and she will join the team properly.
After the Radio Tower, I went to the Whirl Islands. Not for Lugia, but because I needed balls. When I added the Pokeball rule I didn't anticipate going to extra dungeons in search of balls because I keep running out.
I caught a few things and I was excited that I had a few extra Pokemon to choose between. Of course, as soon as that happens, Schwarz dies to Selfdestruct. I brought in Don. He's holding the Pink Bow, but there isn't an image for that, so I used the Silk Scarf.
In the Clair fight, I used an X Special on Ladyboy and then set up a Light Screen. As it turned out, that move wasn't very important because Ice Punch one-shot all of her Dragonair. When she switched into Kingdra, I switched to Ampere because as much as I love Ladyboy, his defense is garbage. Ampere took a critical Hyper Beam like a CHAMP and retaliated with a few ThunderPunches.
In the absence of my starter, Ladyboy has definitely stepped up as team leader.
Also Eve is pretty low level because I want her to evolve before level 36. I decided on Umbreon for sure.

On another note, I have a coop project going on with a couple friends, mostly just to reminisce and compare a Volt White run to one we did two years ago. I had 17 deaths in that run, so I think I'm doing better this time around desu. Elesa is down. Had a couple deaths which is unfortunate but at least there are a decent amount of encounters between gyms so I was able to fill the team. I'm actually liking the new additions more than any other team members. After much dilly dallyng we were ready to take on Jasmine. Winter was trained to be fast and hit hard (where do you find the Macho Brace?) Fireblast+Wide Lens (95% accuracy) seemed more than enough for a no casualities gym.

The Kanto fossils are an investment, for sure. In the originals, they come very late in the game and need a good deal of TM support. And in FRLG, they start at level 5 and most people ain't got time for that. However, I am pretty happy to be using a Kabutops since I really haven't used one in a playthrough ever. BTW, Rock Tomb is the worst damn move in gen 3.

Once I had defeated Koga, I took a quick trip to Cinnabar Island and revived the Dome Fossil before doing anything else. I also caught a Koffing in the Pokemon Mansion. It'll be interesting to see how Ali navigates you guys through the mansion.

Alright so Morty was very difficult since his gym went from the ghost type gym to the fucking Dragon type gym. Thankfully my big boy Rumbles hits like a fucking tank and shows no mercy. There was a scary moment with a dratini with dragon rage but all in all we came out okay.

Leg 2 is underway. Caught my champs in their lowest natural forms, but kept rando evos on so we'll see where they go I guess. Also my starter is lit af, and Wonder Guard Voltorb is a huge pog.

Somehow managed to catch a fucking Mewtwo too. For the record, I'm allowing myself to use legendaries if I catch them, but I'm not allowed to transfer them to the next game if they become champions.

Best of luck if you do BBVW! Personally speaking, I'd rate it as Drayano's hardest hack, with Renegade Platinum following a close second. A lot of the important fights in BBVW are double, triple or rotation battles, which makes it fairly easy to lose mons as they can get double/triple targeted. Comparatively speaking, I'd likely rate SacredGold as his second easiest, with FireRed Omega being his easiest (and least edited).

They're all pretty great hacks though, easily among my favorites to nuzlocke ;w; The variety and the buffs to weaker mons make them super fun.

Well here is the team in development for the Byron fight. I leveled the crap out of Spearwife so she could start maybe picking up a Shiny Stone cause it is getting awkward carrying Silverwing around at lvl 1 since I don't know if I can evolve her. Gonna now pause for a bit and get Yronwood knowing Earthquake, which means I need to delay her evolution. I use encounter codes yoinked off google to generate my champs in as lvl 5 wilds, then use pkhex to edit any survival perks I might be doing. I also tend to hack in masterballs to catch them just to ease my ball/money wastage early on.

You could probably just do it all with pkhex too, but I like nature/ability/ivs/etc to be randomly generated (and that also works better for the nature of this randomizer, since I dont have to look up what randomized moves/abilities to give them).

I think Reflect/Light Screen are some of the very best moves to have in a nuzlocke, they have saved my ass more times than I can count. As soon as I can get a Light Clay it's going straight on my Gothorita.

Mid-Kanto check in. Went for Janine first so Maya could get levels, then Erika, then Surge. When fighting Surge, his Electrode used Explosion and took out Don. I didn't teach him Earthquake because he would have learned it soon by level-up, but I feel that he would still be alive if I did that. After that I traveled Kanto a bit, got the Super Rod, and caught Las Luces. I didn't do any other catches because I didn't find any good encounters, especially because the only Poke Ball I have right now is the Master Ball.

Honestly, if your magikarp survives to evolution, your team doesn't look bad. You do have a bit of a grass and ground weakness though. Tropius could use a flying move. Any reason you added Dill instead of Lotus? could save you grinding, unless you want the extra evs ig.

VS Seeker doesn't contribute at all to my difficulty ratings. I don't factor in grinding, since I always enforce strict level caps and am willing to toss a 2x exp code on if I really need it. Most of his hacks have decent grinding options though.

The reason I put Ren Plat so high is part of what you said- unexpected battles. SGSS had a few of them. Ren Plat had at least a dozen- and NONE of them are optional. There were so many extra battles... Lucas/Dawn alone has 3-5 added fights, you're forced to fight all the tag-along partners (Cheryl, Riley, etc.), the Mansion double battle, fucking Aaron and his murder bugs (that SD Drapion can burn in hell), Darach and his ENTEI.. All that, on top of the existing fights getting tougher.

Even now that I'm familiar with the game, I still get fucked over by them (such as my last Ren Plat run, where I wiped TWICE to Chery lol). It's genuinely a difficult game. Better balanced than the flat out aggression of BBVW, but still pretty scary on its own.

SGSS is a decent challenge too, but I've never particularly struggled with it or FRO (which really needs to be revisited imo; barely feels like a Dray hack in comparison to his other hacks). RRSS and BBVW2 are in the middle for me.

just being careful really. chipper doesn't fight as much as he used to, but he outspeeds most. buglas has a pretty high special defense and i use sleep powder a lot. featherdance helps a lot with lombardi.
also ive beaten leafgreen so many times i usually know what each trainer has and what the dangers are (machoke love using revenge, knowing what level koffing/weezing have selfdestruct, etc.)

After messing up the rocket hideout fights we rebuild the team with the eternal Masquerade, Poland, who was just caught and was really promising with their modest nature, and Reshia, who almost ends our whole career when the team lvl averaged 30.
The trainer in the gym gave us a couple scares and made us realise almost the whole team was weak to ground. Luckily, Mom knew I cant build a team for shit and sent lots of shuka berries.

It was desu. Electrode used Explosion on the second turn, so if Don had Earthquake it probably wouldn't have been a problem. I had it on somewhat-low health using Flail because I thought Surge's team couldn't use anything more powerful than Quick Attack, I seriously did not expect a gym leader to use Explosion.

Final badge time. I got Amuremsis souped up with that spicy Sunny Day/Solar Beam combo going into this fight hoping for a clean sweep.

Update slightly after the Ice Gym.

Team is really coming together though I nearly over leveled them. Dayne swept with 4 flamethrowers. Picked up the Shiny Stone for Garlan and was about to just dump Silverwing cause Spearwife had still not picked up a 2nd Shiny Stone (but I sure have plenty of escape ropes now). However, just before throwing her in the box, I looked it up and it turns out that there is a Platinum exclusive stone which I went and picked up so FINALLY Silverwing can start leveling up. Probably going to take her into the 40s before making her Togekiss for reasons to be explained in the future.
Yes, Garlan has both Leech Seed and Ingrain and Giga Drain. It makes for hilarious trolling of enemy teams that don't have a hard counter to her. Probably will get rid of Ingrain for the Elite 4 though since it stops switch outs and I don't want to trap myself.
Yronwood is a total tank now and I am just debating what to replace his Yawn with. I am currently leaning Thunderfang.
Spearwife's last resort is shockingly weak. That has to go too. No rush though since the Super Fang/Spark 1-2 hit is usually enough to kill anything.

Still THinking about what do do with Syrax's full moveset. I was thinking of replacing Sandstorm/Dragon Rage with something like Shadowclaw/Fire Fang. But it may be worth it to grab a Swords Dance too. Difficult to say.

Beat Bugsy and Whitney without issue. Tyrogue evolved into a Dustox, and I grinded the Pokeathalon for a couple of water stones to evolve my Slowpoke and Poliwhirl.. who are now a Golem and an Electrode, respectively.

I can work with that I guess. No deaths yet so things are going relatively well compared to Fire Red.

Side note, my Wonder Guard Voltorb learned Magnet Rise. Extremely tempted to never evolve him, but we'll see. Might spend a little time grinding up a couple boxed mons just to see what they become.
