Pokémon Stadium 2 is one of the most difficult Pokémon games. The rental Pokémon are useless( example being Houndoom having ember). The gym leader castle had ridiculous rng that always seemed against you. And the gym leaders Pokémon sometimes didn't even match up with the type they represent( Erika has vaporeon).

The rental Pokemon were deliberately designed to be shit in order to encourage you having the actual games and training your Pokemon. They've give the unevolved Pokemon more accurate moves while the evolved ones would have weaker or inaccurate attacks instead.

I've ran through round 1 gym leader castle with rentals on an emulator. The game sends out Pokemon determined by the three you choose. There is typically a path to victory but it's a very specific path much like chess and accomplished through many trial and error since the computer always reacts to your choices.

You retried for hours and hours, trust me. If you play it now you will give up from the frustration. I know this because games that are quite hard back then I beat because I had infinite time, now that I am older have much more shit to play and have less time, it gets annoying to retry over and over and you either take constant breaks or give up.

You can clone Protein, Carbos, etc too but training is still the best, you will miss DVs.
Use the Doduo/Dodrio tower to speed up your training, you need more than 150 pokemon in the GSC dex to do it.
Oak's lab can be really helpful to complete your dex (ex. Catch a Sandshrew in GSC, transfer to gen I, use the Rare candy glitch to evolve and bring it back, also elemental stones evos).
Fuck, I miss those times so much.

I do like the fact that trainers in Stadium 1 & 2 don't have monotype teams though. Even if they tend to favor a type in particular, they still have some kind of variety and that makes the battles more interesting.
Of course this is more of a species restriction since it's kinda difficult to have lots of steel types in a team, for example, but that's still cool. The newer games definitely should drop the full monotype archetype and do some kind of hybrid monotypes or thematic teams, like Raihan did in SwSh.

It's not that the game is difficult. As you said, rental Pokemon are deliberately made shit (they have terrible individual strengths, and the evolved forms have weaker moves than the pre-evolved rentals.) Also, the game has fucked up RNG where the opponent is likely going to unleash secondary effects way more often, on top of their Pokemon having high or near perfect individual strengths and base points.

Just finish the game over and over, you'll get plenty of experience that way, and rare candies for levels 90-100.
To DV train, check serebiii or bulbapedia, but in general just beating the E4 up to level 90 or so will get you there. Also you will farm millions of py which helps for vitamins. Breed a team from GSC and give them the best moves then move them to RBY so you can beat stadium 1 easily.
Check the rules first before training pokemon because the pokecup and low level cups won't take every pokemon, for exmaple you can't use a snorlax in the mid level cup.
This is why you kinda need at least 3 of each TM.

The 150 Pokemon thing is to transfer Pokemon with a different trainer ID from your N64 PC Boxes into your game, aka circumventing having to trade them all. Pretty stupid if you ask me.
For Gen 2 Towers you need to beat all of GLC and all the Stadium Cups in R2. Having one done will unlock Doduo and having both unlocked will unlock Dodrio. Even then you can only use them if you are in the postgame and have beaten the E4. Beyond retarded.

Just dupe TMs with the aforementioned PC Pokemon dupe glitch. It's the easiest way to dupe Pokemon ever.

Also if you play in Doduo mode the border goes away and it becomes sepia tone, apparently in Dodrio mode it becomes monochrome but I haven't finished R2 in S2 yet and I'm not sure if I ever will so can't confirm it. Apparently most people agree because it is pretty much impossible to find footage of Dodrio mode in action online

Uh, what the fuck are you talking about? I unlocked dodrio with just beating prime and pokecups, Round 1. You still have mewtwo, the gym tower and the petit and the other cup to compete left. This is for stadium 1, though.

I'm planning to conquer this game. I've been playing crystal and red alongside it for some trades/old tms/legendaries for my teams on the different cups. I had the game as a kid, but honestly just duked it out against my friends with the rentals because I never had a gameboy until the gba.
I was planning something more straightforward at first, and I have about 7 mons up to level 50, but now I want to try some spicy memes.
Here's my planned team for the Poke Cup (lv 50-55)

For those unfamiliar, you pick 3 mons for each battle, and the combined levels can't exceed 155, so I have two level 55 pokemon and the rest 50 to mix up. Smeargle must be level 55 so that his OHKO moves will not have 0% accuracy against a higher level opponent. The first three are the smeargle meme core, lead starmie to status something so that umbreon will have an easier time setting up evasion. Mean look + sand attack will be useful to give smeargle the maximum odds of winning. Spore is for the next two pokemon, or if they're healthy enough, I can go back out to the other two and try to setup again if I don't want to risk smeargle.
The last three members are a generally strong core that handle each other's weaknesses. Starmie can sub in for any members in order to act as a fighting resist and fast attacker. Umbreon can be used with the other core as well to setup evasion, making snorlax's job easier.

Tell me if this is retarded, also I am considering trying to bring it to the prime cup as well.
