There's the central polity or what have you and they hire mercenaries to chart out a newly discovered continent and the whole tale takes place over there. There are the guilds and there's the 'natives' and another group of hired mercenaries but their goal is to declare sovereignty over the land. The plot is convoluted and I usually focus on the characters than the story lol
