I have a confession to make, /vp/. Gen 7 is one of my top three favorite gens. The abundance of cutscenes, lack of post-game content and places to explore brings the game down, though.

The alola games really hurt because there's so much good in them and to see the obvious ways they're dragged down is painful. I hope the odd gens pattern holds true and gen 9 is nearly as experimental, and learns a little from 7's missteps.

I don't have hope for Gen IX considering the state of this generation and the last two, especially considering the guy who helmed ORAS is the main director now.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I don't mind cutscenes in pokemon games, especially if it's for the sake of a more developed story which I think SM was compared to some of the previous games that aren't BW.

That said, the linear nature and lack of side content did kinda diminish it. At least I got some fun characters out of it.

Pokemon has never been cutscene heavy until gen 7. It’s a bad change that most people want gone, myself included. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be forced into a 5 minute cutscene that I can’t skip every few minutes.

The S/M had a lot of cutscenes because they failed on storytelling and pace, but they getting better. The Sw/Sh cutscenes are way better directed and fast
