People latched to Ash's Charizard, and later to the species, for no reason and completely forgot that he would've died if it wasn't for Brock tending to him and Ash's kindness.
Since I was that weird kind that stopped liking Dragon Ball the moment it became the screaming musclemen show, I never forgot and was always wishing for anyone else to be sent in place of Charizard. Fuck, his fight with Magmar always felt like bullshit to me and it was actually disgusting for him to NEED to be on the verge of death another time to listen to Ash. At that point, I had started to dread any appearances of him in the anime
It's also a bad pokemon and a waste of time to train in game. The only reason it's not Typhlosion-tier bad is because Typhlosion's entire learnset is fucked and makes no sense, and Charizard is given a million perks each generation as normie-bait.
