Not as good as the alola dex overall imo but the starters are good and there are a few cool mons in there

Sadness at what could have been. They should have all been the spotlight of their region and Kalos should have had a drawn out story from gyms 4-8. All of that went down the drain and the series has never recovered since.

I know why the regional dex was so small but it still annoys me
>Only new bug line is scatterbug

Not much, the designs don't do much for me personally. It does get compliments for having the least amount of outright bad designs though (even if the tiny dex skews that in its favour)

Needs more poison, bug and ground. At least we got a lot of normal dragon mons. And I am glad it kept the legendaries and mythicals to 6. Fossils are the best they've ever been and even if you don't like the starters, they are really interesting and finally killed the fire/fighting streak. My biggest grip was Gen V gave us such interesting bugs and all we got was Butterfree 3.0 but with some palette swap gimmick

I think Gen VI had the best designs since Gen III. I had been waiting for a TRex pokemon for ages and Tyrantrum didn't disappoint. He instantly became one of my all time favorite bros and his loss is the worst of the dex cut for me. Other than that you have Aegislash, Greninja, Talonflame, Sylveon, Hawlucha, Noivern, two cool grass/ghost lines... say what you want of the gen overall but it was not lacking in the design department.

it's extra sad for Ground because the only Mega they got was Garchomp
there's literally three Ground types total, one of which is a postgame legend and one of which you only get the stone for in victory road

The lack of types was an issue. It's glaring with Poison in particular because if you picked X you couldn't get the only new Poison types in the game since you got Clauncher and Clawitzer instead.

Ground has also been shafted three generations straight. Gen 6 had Diggersby and Zygarde and that's it. Only Diggersby is even available before the postgame, and it's trash without the hidden ability. In gen 7 you only get Mudsdale and Palossand, plus Alolan Dugtrio (at least Mudsdale is insanely good ingame). Gen 8 just has Galarian Stunfisk, Runerigus, and Sandaconda.
