I played the games when I was 8 and built a team shortly after Brock's gym.
though my team had shitty movesets but I knew I have to level them instead of relying on 1 pokemon

What? You didn't "have" to do anything. Powerleveling one Pokemon is more than viable. Optimal, even, when you look at speedruns

Yes, but it's also Gen 1. I'm not down to waste the one Flamethrower TM on it, and Fly is not much of an upgrade either. Fire Spin is broken but hella slow and boring

solo running wasn't a common idea when we were kids.
We all wanted to collect as many Pokemon as we can the first time we played Pokemon

Rhyhorn Thunderbolt vs. Jolteon: 36-43 (92.3 - 110.2%) -- 61.5% chance to OHKO

jolteon had to be fucking level 10 for this to happen, against giovanni's lvl 45 rhyhorn
