Don't find it necessary, but if needed it should be:
>Grass/Normal (It is plain as fuck and it doesn't learn a single Fairy-type move)
>Fire/Dark (Badgers are nocturnal, besides it would make sense for it learn at least Bite/Crunch)
>Water/Dragon (Crocs are oldest living lizards, besides he learns most dragon-type moves like Outrage, Dragon Dance, Dragon Tail, etc.

I like all of these starters being single-stage due to that never really happening before. They're basic because they're meant to be a callback to the Kanto games. All of these Pokemon have the same stats but in different orders (or in Typhlosion's case, the exact same stat spread as Charizard). Their typings help to distinguish them a lot more.

Feraligatr should be Water/Dragon.
Strong Jaw should be its new ability, and it should get new Water and Dragon biting moves with at least 80 power.
Its BST should be shuffled around so that it has 130 Attack, it's vicious and fucking enormous so it makes sense for it to be the starter with the highest Attack stat of them all.

Mighteyena comes to mind. Crawdaunt v Basculin also comes to mind. Dark is pretty arbitrary, you could throw it on the gatr and nobody would really see it as being wrong.
