This is one of the most cancerous stories I've seen in any video game ever. Why do people keep saying this trash is good?

They grew up with it.
I didn't like it either because it was the equivalent of the Kalos League Finals in the anime. You'd think they try to go in a gray direction with the villainous team but they completely cop out, with Ghetsis being such a caricature it's unbelievable how many clowns on /vp/ praise him.

Also, it's a Pokemon story. It's less of an actually developed narrative, and more about a vague sense of growth, rivalry, and a comfy atmosphere of a world designed around friendship with animals.

The story tried to do something unique with the concept of a morally gray evil team. Of course they fucked it up massively by making Plasma PETA but for some people I guess that's good enough.

The finale is great but I can see what you mean. N talking about liberation and then having Plasma grunts kick munnas and Ghetsis having generic world domination plans is way too bad of a juxtaposition.
Everything else is pretty good. I like Bianca and Cheren and as I said the finale was amazing. I just really liked the idea of Pokemon liberation and was interested to see this ethical dilemma finally addressed but it was utterly wasted.

My favorite thing about the story is that it continued with the sequels. You get to learn more about the region and explore it from a different perspective. Gold/silver are the only other games that did that.
