the term "original universe" also seems arbitrary to me, so they should just be numbered.
also i'm going to use the term "multiverse" instead of "universe" because it's clear that version differences are different universes within one multiverse. ruby and sapphire and emerald show different events, so clearly they're not the same universe. but they take place within the same multiverse.
the actual list is
>RBY, GSC- Alternate Multiverse 1>RSE, FRLG, DPPt, HGSS, BW, B2W2- Alternate Multiverse 2for a while it was assumed that these two were the same multiverse, but i think based on how pokemon transferred from gen 1/2 games have slightly different summary text compared to those transferred from other games, its fine to call them different. there's also the fact that pokemon transferred from rby/gsc to usum don't take a path through alternate multiverse 2 games, which seems to imply that they aren't directly connected. might just be my autism though.
>XY, ORAS, SM, USUM- Alternate Multiverse 3usum is interesting because villains from alternate multiverse 1/2/3 appear, though not from the exact universe that the player plays through in the games from those multiverses, since the villains win in their universes. i'd also like to address:

XY beats you over the head with how Mega Evolution is Kalos-exclusiveto me, this is just a new game retconning previous games within the same multiverse. it's not really any different from dark/steel type being added within alternate multiverse 1, or other small differences between generations 3-5. but i can see it being argued that XY are a different multiverse, i just think it's simpler this way.
