I'm trying to use him for my Gen 3 team but he's so fucking useless. At which gen does he start to get good?

Gen 5 he got sand Rush ability for his speed so anything that and beyond is good

Honestly anything he can do Excadrill does better

Man, FRLG Sandslash was such a sad Pokemon. Had to run Double Edge and Poison Sting for coverage on mine since it didnt learn anything else (Rock Slide went to another mon)

yeah just give it sand attack, eq rock slide and maybe return or hyper beam. It is basically geodude minus the rock stab.

How is Sandslash useless? It's never the best thing in any game but it's solid.

Best gen for it is the first though. Crit Slash really early, plus base 100 power Dig makes it really good. It got nerfed a lot in gen 2 but it's still good there despite being a TM hog. Sandslash's worst issue is the abysmal level up movepool until BW2.

A bit irrelevant when TMs exist though, especially when you can get dig pretty much immediately after in FRLG and you'll already it by the time you get Sandshrew in RSE, like OP is playing
