I was just never able to replay it. I start, play a bit and forget about it after turning off my console, mainly because I don't like the vanilla games and Kalos romhacks suck. I was able to play all other gens at least twice.

XY were amazing up until the second gym. It falls apart completely after that. I can appreciate the variety available in the dex, how pretty the region looked in by trying to use 3D but that’s all it had going for it. Once you beat the league and that shitty postgame story there is nothing to do. The maison gym leader rematches are a joke, same with the rematches with your rival and essentia. Bitch about Hoen, gen 3 and ORAS all you want but objectively they are the better games

Thinking back to my first experience playing Y, and all I can say now is that the game felt forgettable. Every other game had highlights like SuMos characters, BW breaking the pattern and having a Legendary showdown with N, HGSS sheer amount of content and finale against Red, Cynthia destroying me in Platinum, etc. But XY just felt bland to me.

XY was the beginning of the downfall in quality. Just the PS1 tier graphics would be enough, add a region that is basically a glorified "boss" rush (i said "boss" because kalos gym leaders are fucking pathetic), a shitty story with a retarded evil team, a ton of wasted opportunities in the gen 6 pokemon, the group of autistic kids who follow you everywhere. The list goes on.
XY and Swish are the only pokemon games that i consider genuinely bad, although XY can still be enjoyed to some extent, unlike Swish.

They were unfinished, but more so than the average Pokemon game which is inherently unfinished because of various reasons.

There was no post game.

It had all of the same shortcomings of previous Pokemon - same story arc, same gym format, same battle format, same empty world devoid of side quests.

All of the models were lifeless and washed out (the latter being somehow even more egregious than the former)

The list goes on anon.

The only saving graces were the excellent new designs and the introduction of character customization.

Literally what does XY have to offer? What makes it stand out? If you ask me to remember the characters, it's all a blur. But I clearly remember the characters from BW and SM and I really enjoyed the cast in SM. XY's story is an underwhelming mess. Diantha is quite literally the least memorable final boss when you compare her against the likes of Blue, Cythnia, N, Kukui, and even Leon. Barely any post game and all I end up remembering is that mind-numbing Maison and friend safaris after friend safaris. What else was there to do? What content did XY have to offer? This is like RS all over again but at least RS had Emerald later on, but we never got Z. This entire game literally amounts to nothing and it's just mediocre.

Kalos had great potential, but failed to fully realize it. All Kalos needed was a Z version, that fixes a lot of it's issues while adding a staggering amount of side content, to make it just as good as the other popular third versions.

My main gripe was how poorly it was handled. Gen 6 is kino (due to it being released in middle school for me , and my whole school playing it) and I'll somewhat cherish it. But Unova takes the spotlight for best region

And then Gen 7 got FUCKED, and Lillie's journey was done away with due to Necrozma

If I was any good at coding, I'd have the story of Vanilla Sun and Moon with aspects of USUM, but the gameplay of USUM. Instead of Nihilego, have Lusamine become one with Necrozma, or something

Yes. I put 500+ hours into Diamond and didn't even bother finishing Platinum because of how fucking boring it was.

I'm gonna get my diploma in the mail this June (Thank you China), and I can't believe time flew on by.

Call me crazy, but high school was kinda lame. Middle School felt better, as it felt enriching enough to feel like a new adventure awaited me every day (and no, I'm not referring to my chronic masturbation that started in 6th grade; Sorry mom and dad for the white ceilings). Middle School felt like a true coming of age in my life, and I felt like my future was brighter than ever once I "graduated". It doesn't feel the same, but I still have that vision in mind

What does that have to do with Pokemon? ORAS really helped me cement my feelings for Gen 6. I remember in 7th grade when I had an intense fever of 102°F that wouldn't break, so during that week, I played through my copy of Omega Ruby (I was one of those kids) and just enjoyed the time of my life. Everyone traded and played with me when I came back and it was just a fucking magical time of my life

I can relate as a fellow zoomer that's also about to graduate. Gen 6 wasn't my first gen (I played 4 and 5, and I have fond memories of them as well), but seeing Pokemon finally go 3D really pleased my autistic 12 year old self and overall I had a lot of fun with these games, especially their online/multiplayer. I even completed the national dex in ORAS and discovered /vp/. Sure, XY and ORAS weren't perfect, they were heavily flawed and I don't blame anyone for bashing them, but personally they're really nostalgic as they were a reprieve from the depression I started going through in 6th grade and never fully recovered from. I still feel like a stunted 12 year old kid who just wants to live the childhood/adolescence he could never have because of the self-loathing I suffered from then and still battle today. It feels unbelievable that I'm almost a college boy honestly, feels like I'm stuck in the past.

What an accomplishment. But you're right, the games aren't bad per se. They're just woefully disappointing. You can actually see just how much effort was put into in the first third. Then it's all down hill from there. XY is the game of lost dreams and potential. Will never not frustrate me.

They set up a bunch of stuff that lead nowhere. The 20th anniversary really cut into their development time. Which lead to story elements being hastened, changed and out right dropped. The best example of this is Lysandre. Where his character does a 180 and becomes the laughing stock of the franchise. They were clearly aiming for another BW but wound up realising they didn't need to try at all to turn a profit.

Gen 3 is when GF gave up on actually putting any effort into developing Pokémon as a series. Gen 3 is just Gen 1 again, and every Gen since has just been the same thing over and over. If the step from Gen 2 to 3 were the same as what 1 to 2 was, then Pokémon would actually be a good series with decent games today. Cutting off Gen 3 from the previous games was the shit icing on the shit cake (and GF could have easily implemented Gen 2 -> 3 transfers if they wanted to, even if it were through a GCN game, they just didn't want to put in the effort).

This reaffirmed by pretty much everything about a mon changing in the transfer from the VC games to pokebank, they likely just stopped caring about the pokemon actually being authentically the same. Basically the decision to not allow transfer was one made out of respect to players. Gen 2 limited it's changes significantly in order to remain compatible to gen 1, however gen 3 did not limit itself, and so they figured that trying to say the pokemon was the same before and after the transfer would've been a blatent lie and so they simply didn't say that and prevented transfer. As for the rest of your point, I don't really get what you mean. Gen 2 was far more similar to gen 1 then gen 3 was to gen 2, gen 3 changed the formula arguably as much as gen 2 did but with mostly hidden things that the player wouldn't immediately notice. it was more of an overhaul to help the games move onto better hardware going forward as much of the hidden stuff was pretty primitive before and not well polished and thought out

You have no idea what you're talking about, the utter laziness of VC->Bank transfers is no evidence. Authentically transferring mons to Gen 3 would have been incredibly straightforward had they put in even a tiny amount of effort. DV->IV conversion is simple, back calculate a PID from those IV values, and use that to determine nature and ability while keeping gender and shininess consistent.
Please explain how Gen 3 changed the formula, and no, "stats are calculated differently" and "abilities are a thing" are not substantial changes to the formula and structure of the game.

Saying "Stats are just calculated differently" completely ignores just how much fucking effort it takes to completely reprogram the same shit in a brand new way with all new systems underneath ON TOP OF all the new shit they added to it and all the new shit they did with it that I previously mentioned. That is what I mean when I say gen 1 and 2 are more similar than gen 2 and 3, gen 1 and 2 are programmed the same way with all the same underlying stuff so gamefreak basically copy pasted and then just added on top, with gen 3 it was all redone from scratch, the completely redid how it all worked.

I still haven't had the motivation to play through it a second time past the first visit to Lumiose. Same goes for Gen VII and I still haven't even touched VIII. I'll likely be playing Gens I-V and some old spinoffs until the end the way things are going with the series.

Most people don't consider HGSS gen 4 because it's a remake of Johto aka gen 2. Gen 4 is just easier to type out than Sinnoh.

HGSS are arguably the most loved pokemon games, B2W2 are improvements on a trash game and an overall trash gen.

No other franchise besides pokemon suffers from a diarrhea of CotD's that never show up again. Reusing old pokemon is not a flaw.

First time we ever actually got a unique surfing animation in a mainline game. I wish all pokemon that could learn Surf had unique animations. Rotom bike is shit.

Everything else I agree with was shit, especially that the gen 6 starters got cheated out of megas when the gen 8 starters are getting g-max.
