In other words, the older fanbase is largely what these games are relying on to continue on. Not trying to sound cynical but pokemon isn't what's cool among kids as much as it used to be, shit like fortnite has more mainstream appeal to kids today, the only reason pokemon is so successful even now is because the original fanbase's nostalgia is just THAT strong that most have stuck with it. On top of that you have go that really brought it to the scale it's at now, but again, go is primarily played by adults. Seriously pokemon could focus exclusively on it's adult fanbase and I'm rather confident it would work out in their favor.
