some of them just don't get buffed enough, though. My starter torchic had sunny day at the start, so I was using bellsprout in the sun at first but around level 30 he seemed to be dying to everything so I switched him out even after he destroyed the beginning of the game
The gym leaders are the main challenges, besides that some trainers cheese you like quilfish and some poison types give me problems. I haven't seen explosion but I've seen destiny bond which is basically the same thing with the way the ai chooses moves.
Roxanne, Wattson, and Tate and Liza right now gave me the most problems where they wiped me out multiple times.
my main problem was switching out my team since I didn't like my type match ups and I wanted to try using sandstorm
I just passed by tate and liza with my team being level 45-49 with a different strategy and all my best held items. I think the attacking twice thing was a glitch or only if you sped up your emulator.
I fainted all their pokemon on the left so that girafarig came out last, I wish I recorded the battle since it was so close at the end I only had my swampert left on yellow hp
