VGC bros, I'm bored with my current team and want to make a new one. With the top meta threats in mind, what are some team cores that could thrive half decently atm? I want to be open minded but I'm attempting to shy away from copying the main team comp ot sets 1 for 1.

How does one stop Dragapult from surfing?
>can't be redirected
>Can't be Fake Outed
>Can't OHKO Coal first because Dragapult is too damn fast

Yeah that's my bad. I had some previous stuff in the calculator that made it way stronger than it was supposed to be. Try doing the calc with max speed dragon claw maybe? I got a 75% chance to OHKO but do the math on your end to make sure it's still an alright move.

For Jolly v Jolly it's an OHKO, but I'm familiar with people choicing their Drags just for the additional guarantee surf go off, and even if not I'm relying on a speed tie and I don't think I'd be comfortable with those odds.

I think poison is a very underutelized type. I think Max Ooze should be able to have some great application, especially since Togekiss and other fairies like Whimsicott, Hatterene and Sylveon are weak to it, 4 dangerous pokemon. I like to think Gengar is decent, but is way too frail to rely on like that. Roserade, Salazzale, Venasaur, and Toxtricity all seem to be pokemon with good potential here. Anyone have any valuable experience with these species this gen?

Coal is not very strong even after Weakness Policy. Just TTar that thing, its even immune to Volcalith damage and also benefits from Surf activating its WP.

If you want to fuck around with a Pokemon you like, use Pikalytics to figure out what it's common teammates are and go from there. If it's a particular strategy you want to execute, research which Pokemon can pull that off, what stops your strategy from getting off the ground, and build around either doing it or countering the shit that beats your strategy with the rest of your team.

Bring a Malamar and use Topsy Turvy on the Coalossal.

I like the idea, but it has the same problem as the first reply.
For a proper gmax Coal shutdown you either need to stop Dragapult/ the partner's water or fire attack, kill Coalossal before he gets a chance to hit, whether his ability goes off or not, or seperate one of them off the field after using one of the resources

Toxtricity is hard because so many things get High Horsepower now you never know when something might be carrying ground coverage. You're honestly better off running Max Ooze for coverage and/or boosting than trying to find a good poison type.

People use prankster whimsicott to tailwind, togekiss with follow me, sableye with squash, something with aqua jet to hit coalossal first.
It's not as simple as you think it is and like you said, no one wants to be reveal their strat and make it as obvious.

You have to be able to do constant damage to whatever happens on the field. You have 2 enemies gunning you down, you have to ensure your attacks go off. Speed control support or redirection are fantastic because of this. think of combos to keep the stage's control in your favor and you have the match's control.

You can even be cheeky and use weakness policy on the ground Poke with EQ. Follow Me ensures they can't use aqua jet to proc it so you're good on that front and the 4x ground weakness fucks Coalossal.

I'm glad that the only people who can decide what I can/can't use in battle are people who've proven themselves to be good at the game, and that I can always just play a higher tier if I really want to use a banned mon.

I'd recommend watching WolfeyVGC.
His videos are long and his personality can get kind of annoying, but the guy knows what he's talking about and he has his fundamentals down to the point where he wins with shit like Squirtle and Noctowl.
