>>43430755Red++, Polished Crystal, and Emerald Genesis are some of my favorite "enhancement" hacks. Red++ supposedly has an expansive post-game in he works, but there's still tons to do. Drayano's hacks are all pretty good in this regard too, although I consider them more like "hard mode" hacks.
As far as original games go, I consider Prism to be as close to the gold standard as you're going to get right now. I couldn't believe how close it came to capturing the feeling of playing the Gen 2 games for the first time as a kid. Some of the dungeons can drag on too long, though, so just make sure to carry Repels with you. Gaia seems to be on the same level, but I'm holding out until the developer releases the postgame update.
