the hitmons aged horribly, lee is a worse version of hawlucha, hitmontop's utility as an intimidate spinner was reduced with defog and now with boots, and chan has always been useless.

It's ghetto Hawlucha in the lower tiers.
Unburden with either Normal Gem + Fake Out or some kind of Endure + Berry set.
In theory you could use White Herb with Close Combat but I've never seen that.

Unburden sets are shit. People only use a Life Orb set with Rapid Spin because you can set it up more than once

Life Orb doesn't set up at all, which is nice in its own way but it doesn't sweep. Unburden does, the best Unburden set being Curse White Herb for both the ease of setup and the best boosts.

The point is that they are slow so investing in HP is worth it, because they become kinda bulky in both sides, while you absolutely NEED to have a 252 atk/252 spd Hitmonlee and investing in Sp Def is useless when you still are going to die to any physical attack.
