Meganium is moreso a victim of circumstance. Feraligatr and Typhlosion are cool as hell and very popular, though the gen 2 starters as a whole tend to be more obscure due to Gen 2 and being monotypes.

Additionally have you tried to use Chikorita in Gen 2? It's a genuine nightmare, extremely fucking difficult.
