>>43436404The main reason to complete the dex is to get the shiny charm, and nowadays all you have to do is complete the regional dex, so there's no reason to say X number of total Pokemon across all gens is a turnoff because there's no reason to even have all of them if you don't want them, or are a newer player.
Like, it's really funny to me to see people saying they're more willing to complete gen 8's dex because there are only 400 mons in it, but for some reason completely ignore that gen 7's dex (in SM and USUM) had less Pokemon needed for the shiny charm than in gen 8.
Saying gen 5 was testing the waters into not having all the Pokemon doesn't make that much sense, given how there's a way to transfer in all of the Pokemon from your gen 4 games. There will always be more new Pokemon with every new generation, if the thought of there being "Too many Pokemon" is a problem, well, they brought it upon themselves and the people who are fans of the series shouldn't be punished for it.
