No it didn't. It just expanded on it by letting Hawlucha in since the only reason it isn't usable in the games is because Game Freak was too lazy to make a flying (or rather, since Hawlucha can't actually fly, gliding) animation for it. Game Freak's laziness has never held the anime back.

you can't be serious and think this was ok when the game is a 3DS games and the last 3DS game had all the pokemon with (unused) walking and running animations.

The BF was added to keep people playing pokémon and get people thinking about building teams for comp and PvP play. It's no surprise since they worked out how to connect anyone to anyone playing the games looking a battle online, they removed the RNG halls - they don't want you spending all your time in there, they want you battling people like they tried to encourage you to do as children. That's why the towers are simplified - try out a new team comp, then take it to the world and try it out, instead of sitting like a lonely spazz grinding and getting mad as the computer is a cheating cunt and rapes you near end of your streak.

That's a hard pill to swallow, but that's literally the stated reason so I can't argue. Still, the Battle Tower has the potential to be worthwhile post game content, but they just dumbed it down to the point where it's purpose is solely to farm BP. At the very least, I want to see other formats like rotation battles, triple battles and multibattles come back.

It is, no matter how much you deny it. No meaningful mechanical innovations, not even returning fan-requested features, so-so graphics, nothing but QoL fixes and a couple of tacked-on forgettable battle gimmicks. S/S is a massive disappointment of a debut home console game that only sells because of the name attached to it. It has no reason to exist over the 3DS titles and GO (where its "new" battle gimmicks were ripped off from) unless you're particularly attached to something in the new dex (which is perfectly acceptable.)
