The trailer did not promise any arc. It was showing clips of upcoming episodes, but they never said they were related in any way. The Korrina episode is clearly a diff one than Raihan's episode down to the stadium itself being a different one.

They aren't though, can't put a M-Lucario in Home OR a Lucario holding a Lucarionite. As others said, they're still in some games (shit, GO will likely add them in time) so they're still going to be shilled for the merch but as far as the core games (ie the canon games) go, they're gone.

Pokemon World Championships literally have zero standards, the same as Alola. Anyone can enter.
All but one of Ash's battles have been 1v1 too, just like Alola. We even have the same writing staff. Get the fuck over it.

The PWT requires you to battle a certain amount of trainers in order to reach master class which contains absolute power houses like Leon and Raihan. The alola league had no such requirements, it was a free-for-all tournament in the literal sense because the participants were literally shitters like Mallow, Lillie, Sophocles, etc.

Standards are set based on how high you climb which is how have the classes, combining what's essentially a gym quest by collecting points for ranking with preliminaries. Alola quite literally let anyone enter regardless if they faced kahuna, did a trial, or just jumped in because why not like some of the characters did.
