I've beaten this game a lot and I still do this. Please tell me I'm not the only one. Same thing happens when I beat Koga. Just seems like there's so many options

Is it just me or gen 1 and 2 games were inherently closer to the so-called "open world" than modern pokemon games? There were so many optional dareas and dungeons in gen 1 and in gen 2 the gameplay begins to branch the moment you reach Ecruteak, not to mention the Kanto postgame.

What? There's only 1 place to go once you beat surge. I think you mean after erika, tho even in that case it's not so much stuff that it's head spinning you can go fuchsia 2 different ways or head to Saffron. Pretty simple that's like 3 decisions and 2 of them take you to the same place

once you beat surge, you have to double-back to cerulean and go down to the entrance to rock tunnel. although beforehand, you probably want to go through diglett's cave to get to the route to obtain flash

I mean there's literally nowhere else you can go than to Rock Tunnel. By the time you beat Surge you should already know you're at a dead end. Go back to Cerulean and the only possible path forward is to the right, oh look, a tree I can cut

They really don't have an official order since doing either first takes you out of the way of the next objective. I've always done fuchsia first tho just because it fits my flow of gameplay

This is how your brain is supposed to work, OP. Optionally you'd also have explored Diglett's Cave before this point and also thought "hey wait, there were some trees over there too" and been rewarded for your intelligence by getting the Aerodactyl fossil, the Flash HM and another Moon Stone.

As a kid I didn't know flash lit up the cave and got stuck for like 2-3 months just paralyzed in the game. Eventually got sick of it and just went through the cave, navigating it without flash.

Shit dawg I played black 2 a couple years back and I stumbled upon some ruins and caught a volcarona at like level 40. All cause I got lost. I feel like the games lost their way at X and Y.

why are people like this. The only disappointing thing to happen to me as a kid playing gen 1 was battling my way through Diglett Cave only to find myself back in fucking Pewter City again. Without Cut. Except, on my way back I ran into a Level 29/30? (can’t remember) dugtrio and I managed to catch it, and it felt as/more rewarding than some of the legendary birds in the game. I used to like Pikachu because the games really made you work for the little fucker. literally fuck zoomers. and by literally, I mean figuratively.
