For the last 2 generations pokemon have been clearly designed with the modelers' job in mind, which is why we're seeing so many designs that look like toys and simple round shapes pasted together. It's blatantly obvious in gen8.
The 3D environments are way less detailed than the last 2 sprite generations too and the scale of everything is just fucked.
Not to mention GF has already made pretty clear they intend to milk those future-proofed gen6 models as long as they can, so we're stuck with fucked up proportions for at least a decade if we're being optimistic.
They were getting good with their spriting too, slowly and incompetently, but they were getting there. And now we're stuck with this shitty obligatory 3D forever.
It's so fucking retarded that everyone thinks all graphics except niche indies need to be 3D to be "up with the times".
3D in the pokemon core series is just horrendous with a few exceptions like XY's towns, most of the environments are empty as fuck.
