>>43477023You... never had any reason to buy both versions y'know. Literally just have a friend and get the pokemon traded to you. The whole point of loads of shit they did back then was to encourage trading because it was one of the most core features of the games
That said, I think trade evolutions have no place in pokemon anymore precisely because it's so easy now, with online and all. Not to be an old fag, but back in the day before online in gens 1-3 obtaining all the pokemon was a legitimately huge accomplishment because you had to organize an actual trade with a friend. Things like trade evolutions and version exclusives and pokemon that only 1 in every 20 kids could reasonably stumble across like feebas, were all valuable because they had actual fucking trading value among kids, if you wanted your friend to cough up his machoke you needed a haunter, stuff like that, or if you were smart you could convince him a pokemon like bagon was rare because only you knew how to find one, and you could get the better end of the deal.
Shit like that literally doesn't fucking exist anymore, local wireless trading exists but do you really think any kid is bringing their switch to school and organizing a trade with a friend?
I don't hate online, it really made battling a person something anyone could do and made the competitive scene what it is, but it slaughtered the magic of trading with friends and such
