I know it's a matter of opinions and subjective taste but I think that BW were the last games to make a consistent addition to the pokedex. We got more than 150 new pokémon whereas nowadays it's "take this 70 or something new ones and different forms of past ones, but only from a selected bunch".
Also, having so many pokémon designed specifically for the new region added to its lore and made the experience more immersive to me. I remember being mi da disappointed when I got to the post game and started meeting Kantomons.
