Only in gen 4

since gen 5 pure flying types become normal type after using roost. But if moltres uses burn up and then uses roost, it becomes ??? type, it's pretty weird

It doesn't.
Immunity to ground is a consequence of flying.
Weakness to electric is a consequence of flying etc.

Flying-type Pokemon that can't fly like Hawlucha and Dodrio are also weak to Electric.

It has nothing to do with flying. The Flying element is simply weak to the Electric element. And so creatures of the Flying element are susceptible to Electric attacks.

My point is that it's shitty world building, all other birds like it are normal/flying but it's "special" for some reason and isn't normal like the rest, no this fucking creature LOSES its type when it lands and turns into a completely different one out of nowhere. Fire types using burn out isn't the same thing because birds land to rest all the time, "burn out" isn't really a natural thing

Roost got changed in Gen 5 to where a pure flying type becomes a normal type when it lands. Therefore Corvisquire is a Normal type when it uses Roost.
Apparently Ho-oh and Moltres become typeless if they use Burn Up first though.
The mono Flying type is still weird but whining over this is hilariously pointless.
