I’m doing a dark monotype emerald nuzlocke. The dark types of gen 3 are all pretty interesting Pokémon with a lot of utility options. They don’t have the best coverage or that many high powered STAB attacks in general. They’re also universally on the frail side.
>mightyena
Fantastic Pokémon in game with a fantastic ability. It gets a rare attack boosting move by level up very early and has fairly decent stats to take advantage of these tools. It does get crunch, roar, swagger so it can work offensively and defensively
>shiftry
Great ability in chlorophyll (seedot learns sunny day and synthesis by level up). It gets solar beam also, but faint attack is its best dark STAB. A very strong in-game pick if you equip it correctly
>sableye
This thing gets the best typing imaginable to compliment a mono-dark run in a game with lots of powerful fighting type battles. The Pokémon itself isn’t that tanky, but it gets lots of utility options and 3 immunities. Sableye is the only dark type that can take on fighting types in RSE
>cacturne
The strongest special attack of any dark type in RSE, and some amazing tools to defensively handle teams with sand veil, leech seed, giga drain, and spikes. Unfortunately it is very frail and slow, and the strongest STAB moves it gets are 60 base power.
>crawdaunt
An offensive powerhouse with swords dance, brick break, return, double edge and water STAB also. He is very slow and frail specially though, but he’s the best option for other dark types and ice types
>absol
quite a frail and not too fast Pokémon, but a mammoth attack stat. He can be very useful with great special coverage options like t-bolt, ice beam, flamethrower, etc and he gets swords dance by level up
>sharpedo
Actually the best dark type in the game. He is fast and strong with amazing coverage (surf, crunch, EQ, double edge, ice beam, taunt too) what more do you need? He can easily solo half the elite four
