In case you haven't noticed, most major game franchises tend to stumble for several years between around their 25th anniversaries. (+-10 years)
Obviously there are a few exceptions to this, Mario and Zelda being prime examples. For instance, Sonic games are shit lately save for Mania.
Hell, the premier JRPG, Final Fantasy took nearly a decade trying to get itself straight, meanwhile you have Dragon Quest barely changing and Japan lapping it up.
Also your boy Masuda isn't directing games anymore, so there should be some freshness down the line. (And honestly, LG and SS have brought some great new mechanics)
