These two fuckheads show up, looking like fuckheads, acting like fuckheads saying they're the rightful rulers of Galar and basically try to take credit for the peace you created. They claim they have it in their blood, so it's the their rights to act like jackasses. Then they fuck up Hop and make Hop look weak. You go around and undo the shit they caused because Hop was a weak shit, then you beat them up and reclaim what they stole from Hop. Then you can catch the version legendary.

They are designed to be extremely hated, so even what they look like is extremely stupid as shit.

I agree, not everything does, but this IS Pokemon. Look at the anime, it literally has two jackasses that do nothing but shitty things to the protagonists and the ONLY reason everyone tolerates Jesse and James is because they got back stories and are charming at times. If Jesse and James kept doing the same things since Kanto without new gags, they'd be the same as Swordfuck and Sheildfuck.

They are the same archetype of character. Compare to how Jesse and James appear in Yellow and Let's Go.

Team Rocket are just the comedy element of the anime.
the earlier seasons gave them a lot of background episodes though so they kept at balance between characters having backstory and clowns just because it's a children show.

Leon was also a poorly written character.
all he does is talk about how he's undefeatable and the strongest trainer in the world yet he got btfo quickly in the first battle you had with him making his entire story a complete joke and irrelevant.

The idea is that he's undefeatable until you? Like Cynthia, like Alder, like Lance? The only difference is that you don't know who Lance is until the end, because the internet didn't exist in the same capacity. No one talked about Lance or Blaine, or Koga, because there was no easy way to see who was battling them that day so it wasn't included in earlier stories.

Leon is the natural progression of what a champion is in a media-virtual-validation driven world. He's not "well written" but neither is any of the champions.

All the Gym Leaders were done by take, who you'll know for the Aether Foundation characters (Lusamine, Wicke, Faba, employees).

Ohmura did the protagonists and I think most other human characters. Sugimori wasn't really involved much as far as I'm aware.

As much as their designs are retarded as hell, their resolve of wanting to restore Galars monarchy makes more sense and has logic behind it than the entirety of Rose’s “I want to risk destroying Galar to solve a crisis 1000 years away” motivation will ever be. If those two were made the main villains then with some fine tuning (and overhauling their hairstyles) then they could of been decent antagonist.

GF was foolish, the gym challenge and champion have never been the exciting part of pokemon, people want to catch pokemon and go on an adventure and solve problems themselves instead of watching Rose fail miserably and fixing shit at the very end of the story.
