But to answer your question, Smogon doesn't have to do anything to the meta. It's going to be changed up in like a couple months. You can definitely enjoy it as is. If you're mad about Clef, Toxa, Corv, etc, there are definitely Pokemon you can run to punish them.

They already did by banning 3 turn, double heal, Z-move win buttons. The most they can do with this unsalvagable shit that we've been given, nobody (seriously) even wants to play cart for a plethora of reasons, while a free, web browser, 2 player calculator is the prefered option.

Yeah just give up any pretense of faithfulness fo the official games and start changing shit up.
Banning dynamax is already abandoning gen 8, as it kills its main mechanic, so why not go further? Make NatDex the official meta, for starters, then go from there.

Gen 2 is like 80% usage Snorlax, it's a broken joke of a meta.
Gen 7 ties your hands up way more than Gen 8 since Koko, Lele, Ash-Gren, and the various Megas basically decide the make-up of your team for you like Dracovish does with being coerced to run a Water immunity/super-resist.

Gen 7 has way more team variety and playstyles than gen 8. There are more threats but there are also way more checks and answer to almost everything. Also the fact that you think Snorlax is what makes gen 2 a "broken joke of a meta" confirms you're a shitter who doesn't play any gen.

Dmax/Gmax aren't counters to stallshit. If anything, defense was better at dealing with it than offense.
And Clef didn't even have the thing that makes it cancerous in the actual game until Home came out, which was after the Dmax ban. So of course nobody cared about Clef then.

I played Gen V. While OU was cancer, UU and below was fine. In Gen VI and VII even UU were cancer. In Gen VII the onyk way to make any ladder remotely likeable is removing Daimax.

Gen IV had the best meta desu. Pretty much everything had a niche and despite the power creep it was fun to play. The other gens simply fucked it when it came to balance, you can tell the exact point where the devs thought "hey, let's make battles faster!" With all the changes introduced in the other generations.
