The objective answer is Sword and Shield. It gets straight to the point and has you playing the game. It really opens up in the Wild Area, letting the player do what they want, when they want.

Truly, an amazing masterpiece that is very underappreciated on this message board.

Maybe Emerald. Fast, content packed and kino region. Although Platinum, HGSS and BW2 have more content and BW has a somehow more deep plot/main game/better worldbuilding they are all slower (and I mean in almost every aspect: movement, pacing and battles/animations).
A few tweaks to Emerald (like adding the night cycle) can make the best game itself, maybe.

Either BW2 which fixed a lot of the problems in BW or Platinum or HG/SS. Gen 4 and 5 truly were the peak of pokemon games. Honorable mention is Emerald.

For me it's HGSS, the main campaign is fun enough on itself and you also have cool shit like the pokeathlon which you can sink hours into, frontier. If they had contests and resort house I would honestly not need to play any other game

This is obviously shit bait but SwSh has the current meta and has a lot of QoL so technically it's where you could get the most amount of fun, but that's mainly concerning the metagame stuff. Or maybe you could get something out of Camp.

The answer is unironically always the current gen. My favorite is HGSS and I’ll always love and replay gens 2/3/5, but the most fun is always discussing the developments on the cusp of a volatile new meta. No matter how shitty the Pokémon might look, that will always be the case, in my opinion. I love the discovery of new strategies. >>43528821

B2W2 just for the PWT:fighting all gym leaders and Champions is just one of the best idea in the entire series.
HGSS for the vast exploration.
Platinum for the comfiness and its OST.
