johto fucking sucks

No.43529085 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
full disclosure, swsh are the worst games in the franchise and bottom 10 worst games i've ever played

i'm pretty sure if you all didn't have some weird nostalgia boner for gen 2, you'd absolutely hate it.
>level pacing absolutely fucking sucks, you're literally never in danger the entire game of losing
>every route and small town is the exact same, narrow and forested, all the big cities are basically the same too
>so many routes are just long stretches of water/grass with nothing in them besides a few trainers, began to set the low bar
>terrible selection and means of getting gen 2 pokemon
>what gen 2 pokemon you can access reasonably are terrible besides your starter, donphan, ampharos, and fucking legendaries
>gym leaders have barely any johto pokemon, their movesets are also terrible
>story is barely existent, team rocket were already incredibly poor villains writingwise and aren't even remotely threatening, but force you to run through two extremely long gauntlets
>stupid shitty roadblocks began this gen, began to set the low bar
>rival is just an edgy jackass who predictably becomes nice at the very end, began to set the low bar
>i'm not even going to go into how disappointing and soulless kanto is

It just absolutely boggles the mind how GSC are some of the most praised games here, it doesn't help that the spritework and art is fucking dated and the Gameboy is slow as shit, am I just missing something?

>b-b-but bro it has SOUL
If by soul you mean nostalgia, somewhat decent music, and '''''''comfy''''''' areas, then sure, there were a few points I enjoyed. I also enjoyed a few parts of SwSh and look how those turned out.

The fact that HG/SS STILL retained several of the problems the base games did is astounding, and actually it's even worse in numerous ways (shit framerate, awful Safari Zone, copy/pasted nu-Frontier).

Just crazy how shit Pokemon fans' taste became and has stayed even to this day
