How would Plux work biologically? Can Pinsir see out of its mouth? Or is Plux's face just a mask and it's completely blind?

It's a weird design that's why they got rid of it and made heracross.

I think Plux could've worked if it was slightly tweaked. Also, even if he got replaced by Heracross like you said, you can kinda tell they look somewhat alike. I guess there's a bit of Plux in Heracross

i would agree with this. pinsir was already strong enough by Gen 1/2 standards and adding a new pokemon rather than moving some stats around for a Pinsir evolution was a better idea. besides, they already gave us Scizor instead which was a better idea.

I think they could have made it work better if they moved the horn down to just above the mask thing (kind of like a unicorn) and added the scoopy thing to the end of it Heracross has.

Then it would kind of make sense, it uses the horn to lift things into the pinsirs then crushes them.

Plux is backwards. The forewings are in the front, making the face its scutellum.
Its eyes are probably the orbs on its backsprite.

I've stated this before in a previous thread. Some insects lose their mouths when they reach their final stage of maturity. This puts their lifespan on a timer since they can't eat or drink anymore. Maybe that could be what Plux went for. Along with being a sick evangelion reference.
