Pokemon needs a reboot that fundamentally changes the way the game is played.
In Zelda's case, all of their games focused on going through dungeons and fighting bosses, but there was a set structure to it all. In Breath of the Wild's case, EVERYTHING was changed. The closest thing to dungeons were the divine beasts, yet they still felt fresh. And the new gameplay just felt very exciting and new.
Pokemon needs something that fundamentally changes how the games have been played for so many years, and for me personally, exploration is a huge thing I'd like to see improvements on. I'm not even asking for a huge open world game. While that'd be nice and certainly worth the wait, I just want to feel free to explore and find secrets for myself instead of a legendary just being handed to me for the sake of the ""plot."" I'm by no means a genwunner, but what's nice about red/blue and the remakes was that you weren't escorted to places to drive the story, it felt like you were exploring things for yourself. It was rewarding.
And another big thing is the scale. It feels like Game Freak is afraid to change anything just because "that's how it's always been." I'll use the 5'7" Charizard for example. When it was just a number in the Pokedex, it didn't matter, but in fully fleshed 3D now, it looks absolutely ridiculous. I want old sizes to be completely disregarded in this reboot and I want huge, looming monsters to be roaming the world. Obviously this doesn't apply to all Pokemon, many of them are meant to be and work being the size they are now, but the legendaries specifically need to be upscaled. I want to feel the hairs on my neck stand as a skyscraper sized Giratina flies over my head in the distortion world.
I'm rambling at this point, but the bottom line is that I want to explore. I want massive structures and creatures. I want to feel like a kid again, and feel like I'm playing MY OWN adventure, instead of the shitty one built for me.
